Wheels and Waves 2018 – The Swankiest Motorcycle Show on Earth

We’d heard a lot about this mystical town in the South of France by the name of Biarritz. Once a year bikers from around the globe unite to celebrate the craziness. Having watched a zillion videos, that we started dreaming and decided to pack our bags and head over to France. Here is our story of the Swankiest Show on Earth. 

What is the Wheels and Waves

Legend has it that three friends wanted to get together and celebrate the one thing that connects them – passion for motorcycles and surfing. They decided to hold an annual event in the quaint town of Biarritz. Since then, every year the sleepy town on the coast of France is woken up by bikers from around the world for a full week.

Wheels and Waves is much more than an event. It is an unadulterated celebration of motorcycles, art and surfing. The spirit of the event welcomes you with open arms and it doesn’t matter what you ride or even if you do, everything goes and everyone’s welcome.

On our first day, we realized that while the world has been pouring in to the event for the past 6 years, there isn’t anyone from India (barring a couple social media guys from Royal Enfield). That did not mean that we were alone. Fine folks from across the globe made us feel that we have been coming here for years.

The weather gods posed a new challenge this year. It had been raining for a few days and that forced the event to be shifted at the last moment. “The Village” had a new address. That did not stop the fun though, the new address was immaculate and did not feel like a last minute attempt.

The festival was eventful and the four days went by faster than a Dodge Tomahawk on a drag strip.  You have to move fast if you want to catch everything the place has to offer and even then there is a chance of missing out. Every day is unique and its hard to choose which day we enjoyed the most. Everything from the Spunks Rally to El Rollo to the Punk’s peak has a unique offering. The only thing that’s guaranteed is a lot of camaraderie and a whole lotta fun.t

We’ll be there in Biarritz again next year and hopefully will catch a few of you there.
